Two alleged robbers were jailed after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop with Whiteville Police on Monday (June 13).
Andre Alexander Freeman, 37 and Marissa Garcia, 34, both of Whiteville, were arrested after a high speed chase and a brief foot pursuit, according to Whiteville Police Chief Paul Rockenbach.
In a press release, WPD said that officers were notified by Columbus Central of a vehicle identified in an armed robbery that was heading into Whiteville from U.S. 74-76. The vehicle was alleged to have been involved in a robbery in Wilmington.
Within 15 minutes of receiving the notification at 3:30 p.m., officers made contact with a vehicle matching the description of the suspect car in the 700 block of North Thompson, the release said, and performed a traffic stop.
“During the stop,” the release said, “officers made brief contact with the occupants before the driver fled from the traffic stop.”
After a 1.75 mile chase, the car was stopped near Ward Street, at which point the occupants fled the car on foot. They were caught a few minutes later.
Freeman was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing to elude arrest, along with resisting an officer. He also faces charges of common law robbery and felony larceny rom New Hanover. His bond was set at $26,500. Jail records show his address as 206 W. Nance St., Whiteville.
Garcia gave her address as 106 Wyche Street. She was charged with two counts of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer, and also charged with common law robbery and felony larceny in New Hanover. Her bond was set at $2,500.
