Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Another day of triple-digit heat for the area; high temp on my station in Whiteville on Thursday was 100 degrees. We’ll be right around the 100-degree mark this afternoon with possible advisory-criteria heat index (no advisory is posted as of the time I write this — if an advisory is issued I’ll have it on my socials).

Thunderstorm activity? Zero today and tomorrow.

We’ll be in the upper 90s to around 100 on Saturday. Much more moisture will likely be in place; heat advisories are probable for Saturday.

Thunderstorm chances start to return on Sunday. This should be isolated to widely scattered on Sunday afternoon. Better chances for showers and thunderstorms come on Monday as a bit of a front drops south over the area. An area of low pressure may lift northeast along or just south of the boundary during the first half of next week; this low might take on weak tropical characteristics, but as it will be south of the front, impacts here should be fairly minimal.

Best storm chances come on Monday, with more seasonable “afternoon popcorn-style showers and storms” for Tuesday and Wednesday (Thursday and Friday as well).
