Shooting Leads to ALE Charges

The operator of an event venue that saw two shootings Saturday night now faces state alcohol charges.

Bladen County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to River Ratz at 462 N.C. 11 Hwy., Kelly just before 6 a.m., according to reports and a news release from the state Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) division. One of the victims was struck in the leg and went to Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire and Rescue for medical care. Details about the second shooting victim were not available. Neither victim’s injuries were life-threatening.

Bladen deputies “suspected that alcoholic beverages were being sold” on the premises  without proper permits, the release said, and contacted ALE. State agents then obtained a search warrant.

ALE and Bladen deputies seized 136 containers of beer and 32 bottles of liquor.

Rodna Montell Robinson, 39, of Currie, was identified as the host of the party. He was charged with possession of alcoholic beverages without a permit, sale of non-tax paid alcohol, allowing consumption of alcohol without a permit, and misdemeanor gambling.

It wasn’t the first time state and local agents visited River Ratz.

Three people were arrested in February 2024 after a raid on the venue netted alcohol, drugs and a firearm from individuals attending a private party there.

Sunday was the second time state ALE agents seized illegally sold alcohol at River Ratz in Kelly. (ALE photo)
