Deputies use Narcan, CPR to save victim
Two members of the Heavy Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) are being credited with saving a man’s life Monday.
Dep. J. DiCicco and M. Kellihan were on patrol on Andrew Jackson highway when they saw a group of people standing around a man on the roadside, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
The deputies discovered the man was unresponsive, and DiCicco administered a dose of Narcan, which is used to reverse the effects of opiates. Kellihan then gave the name a second dose, the report said.
“CPR was then performed until the man became semi-conscious and started breathing again,” CCSO Spokeswoman Michele Tatum said.
The deputies stayed with the man until Cerro Gordo Fire-Rescue responded. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
“Deputy DiCicco and Deputy Kellihan were at the right place at the right time,” Sheriff Jody Greene said. “Their quick, lifesaving measures and immediate access to Narcan saved this man’s life. This incident could have easily been tragically different. Deputy DiCicco and Deputy Kellihan exemplify the virtues of a hero.”
