The N.C. Museum of Science in Whiteville has cancelled Movies on Madison until further notice due to the ongoing renovations at the museum. Movies on Madison will return when the work is complete.

Peace Fellowship Church will have a book sale and storytelling lessons Saturday (June 22). Hardbacks are $2 and soft covers $1. Thousands of books will be available. Proceeds go to the missions fund. The church is located at 5847 Red Hill Road, Whiteville.

Mission Serve will be back in Columbus County starting June 24. More than 200 youth will be making repairs on 16 homes throughout the county. Donations of Gatorade and water are badly needed. Drop off your donations at West Columbus High School. Please include a note with the name of the donor.

Columbus Regional will hold two more Safesitter certification courses for sixth through eighth graders in July and August. The one day course includes lunch, snacks and the Safesitter kit. Cost is $60. Contact [email protected] to register.

Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville will hold Kindergarten Parents Night July 11 at 5 p.m. This is only for parents. You can meet teachers and learn more about the school. Go to enrollRBA.net for more information.

 This week’s Good Samaritans are Helen Holden and the staff of Penn’s Grill in downtown Whiteville. The Penn’s family is caring for a parakeet that turned up at the Commerce Street restaurant. The hungry, hot bird was found in their parking lot June 17. If you are missing a keet, contact Helen at Penn’s.

Honey Hill Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School June 23-27, with classes from 6:30—8:30 p.m. each night. This year’s theme is God Has Blessed America. Everyone is welcome.

Vacation Bible School will be held at Baldwin Branch Missionary Baptist Church Monday, June 24 through Friday, June 28 daily from 6 – 8:15 p.m.  The theme is “I’ve Got This With Jesus”. Baldwin Branch MBC is located at 4047 NC 242 Highway South, Elizabethtown.  Jessica Wilson is the Director of Christian Education.

The Fair Bluff Reunion with Pizazz will be on July 26. It’s an opportunity to reminisce about the vintage buildings that will soon be demolished with the makeover for the town. The Pizazz Band will be playing a free concert on Riverside Drive. Bring your own chair. The concert is the kickoff for the Watermelon Festival on July 27.

The Columbus Arts Council is celebrating 40 years of Mark Bannerman Art Students’ Creativity. The free exhibit is at the Arts Council, 822 South Madison St., Whiteville. Call 910.640.2787 for times.

An Independence Day tradition is coming up soon. The Jimmy Stanley Memorial Hot Dog sale and boot drive at the Lake Waccamaw Fire Department is July 4 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Flemington Drive. All proceeds go to the fire department.

Fall youth soccer signups are going on through June 28 for Columbus County Parks and recreation. Cost is $40 per child. Call 910.640.6624 for more information.

Nakina Fire and Rescue has two fundraisers coming up in July. There will be a fill the boot drive at the intersection of 904 and 905 on July 6 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Look for more information about the NKFD car wash coming up soon.

The West Columbus Youth Sports Club has a series of sports camps set for this summer, including baseball, volleyball, football and cheer. An amateur wrestling club is in the works as well. See this story at Columbus County News Dot Com to find out more.

National Night Out will be hosted by the Whiteville Police Department August 6 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the city hall parking lot. There will be food, music, education booths and more. The event is free.
