Out of ‘Luck’ suspect caught after chase, manhunt

A high speed chase started in Whiteville and ended with a manhunt in the Mount Olive community Sunday. 

Stewart Thomas Luck, 46, is being held under more than $1 million secured bond on charges ranging from trafficking opiates to fleeing to elude arrest. Jail reports show his address as 502 City View St., Asheboro.

The Asheboro man allegedly fled from Whiteville Police and the State Bureau of investigation during his arrest. He led authorities on a high speed chase through north Whiteville to the Mount Olive community, according to reports. He wrecked the car there, then fled on foot.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office mantracking team, along with K-9 Law and the Highway Patrol aviation unit used leads from citizens in the area to track down and arrest Luck, according to a CCSO Facebook post. 

Whiteville Police and the SBI did not comment when contacted Monday morning. Lt. Andre Jackson of the Whiteville Police said the investigation is ongoing.
