December 16, 1938 ~ October 12, 2021 (age 82)
Mr. Shafter Devaughn Sasser 82, of Hallsboro passed on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born December 16, 1938 in Columbus County, the son of the late Carl Shafter Sasser and Ethel Elizabeth Pierce Sasser.
Mr. Sasser was a member of Hallsboro United Methodist Church. He was a veteran having served in the US Army. He was a Mason for more than 50 years and a member of Masonic Lebanon Lodge No. 207. He was formerly past president of the Whiteville Jaycees and one of the original founders of the Whiteville Rescue.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Tippett Sasser; a daughter, Melinda Sasser Moore and husband, Jerry of Charlotte; a brother, Eugene Sasser of Whiteville; three sisters, Doris Nichols and husband, Earl of Bishopville, SC; Sarah Sasser Crawford and husband, Charles of Whiteville, Patricia Sasser Russ of Whiteville;, grandchildren, Jason Moore and Ashley Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Sasser; sisters, Leotha Jordan, Carolyn Hester, and Esther Williamson.
His funeral service with military honors will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 15, 2021 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Judy Billings and Rev. John Barcey officiating. Entombment will follow in Columbus Memorial Park Mausoleum.
His family will receive friends 1:00 – 2:00 pm Friday at Peacock Funeral Home prior to his service.
