A failed break-in attempt still successfully sent a suspect to jail Nov. 17.

Donnie Shane Coleman, 44, was charged with property damage, communicating threats, second degree trespassing, and breaking and entering, according to detention center records. His address was listed as 103 Jernigan St. Tabor City. Bond was set at $5,000.

The sheriff’s office reported that deputies were called to the Williams Township Dollar General about a break-in attempt. Someone shattered a glass door at the business, the report said, but did not manage to gain entry.

Surveillance footage showed the suspect fleeing the scene in a white Hummer when the lights came on in the store, the report said. Investigators identified Coleman and later located him at a Carolina Road property.

Coleman allegedly threatened Shirley Suggs, who owns the property, and said he was going to burn the home. Deputies found him “suspiciously walking around” the residence, according to the report.
