Search crews are on the Lumber River near Fair Bluff after former Chadbourn Police Chief Anthony Spivey’s truck was found at a hunting camp.

Sheriff Jody Greene said Spivey was due in court this morning. The ex-chief was arrested last year on dozens of felony charges. He allegedly stole guns, cash and narcotics from the Chadbourn Police evidence room. Spivey is also alleged to have taken thousands of dollars raised for a cancer patient, then keeping the money when the child died.

In December, Spivey allegedly took two new catalytic converters from a Tabor City garage where he was working.

Spivey was out on bail. He had moved to the Evergreen area after his home burned days before it was to be seized for taxes.

This is a developing story.
