Mr. Henry Glen Thompson age 88, of Cerro Gordo went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at the Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Angel House in Whiteville.
Mr. Thompson was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church; he was a founding member of the Cerro Gordo Volunteer Fire and Rescue in 1968, where he served as chief for 22 years, retiring in 1995, yet remaining on the board of directors. Mr. Thompson was an educator for 30 years at West Columbus High School in Cerro Gordo, of which he taught auto mechanics, retiring in 1995.
Final rites will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2022, at the Worthington Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jeff Stocks and Reverend Michael Edwards officiating. Interment will follow In Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service, at the funeral home on Friday.
He was the son of the late Henry Berry Thompson and Lannie Mae Nobles Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by seven siblings, Berry Thompson, Alice T. Green, Mary T. Meares, Doris T. Herring, Frostie T. Lupton, Dorcas T. Hammond, and Amelita T. Hawkins.
To cherish his memory, Mr. Thompson leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Grey Edwards Thompson of the home; daughter, Sharon T. Caines (Elton) of Cerro Gordo; stepdaughter, Pam M. Ashley (John) of Whiteville; four grandchildren, Natalie McPherson (Sam), Amanda Hall, Greyanna Ashley and Blake Ashley; and 6 great-grandchildren.
