2/16/22 Daily Sports Wrap Up 

Local Sports:  The Conference Tournament at Pender High School is underway. Both Whiteville teams are the number one seed in the tournament and had a bye in the first round. Both teams will play tomorrow, Thursday, at Pender, in the semi-finals. 

Whiteville Wolfpack Varsity baseball starts the 2022 season with a scrimmage on the road tomorrow at North Brunswick. NBA Last Night:  The Hornets fell to the Timberwolves 126-120 in overtime. Karl Anthony-Towns finished with 39 points and 15 rebounds for Minesota. Miles Bridges led the Hornets in scoring with 28 points and Mason Plumlee led the way on the boards with 17 rebounds and led in assists with 9, he also had 14 points. Charlotte is back on the hardwood floor tomorrow night as they host the Heat at the Spectrum Center. 

The Heat got bucked by the Mavericks 107-99. Luka Doncic finishes with a 21-point, 10 rebound double-double for the Mav’s. Jimmy Butler had 29 points and 10 rebounds. 

Celtics take down the 76ers 135-87. The Celtics are the first team in NBA history to win three straight games on the road by 3o plus points 

Cavaliers take the loss to the Hawks 124-116. Trae Young hung 41 points and 9 assists on the Cav’s. 

Grizzlies beat the Pelicans 121-109 

Pacers lost to the Bucks 128-119. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 50 points and had 14 rebounds in the win for Milwaukee. 

Suns beat the Clippers 103-96. Devon Booker 26 points for the Suns.

Wizards at the Pacers 7:30pm 

Celtics host the Pistons 7:30pm

Blues beat the Senators 5-2 

Sabres defeated the Islanders 6-3 

Lightning takes down the Devils 6-3 

Penguins beat the Flyers 5-4 in overtime

NCAA Men’s Basketball Yesterday:  Wake Forest lost to Duke 76-74, on a Mark Williams last-second (00:05) put-back dunk. Coach K missed the second half of the game because of illness. He was reported to be feeling better after the game. Wendel Moore Jr finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds, Mark Williams had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Paolo Banchero finishes the game with 13 points and 6 assists for the Blue Devils. Jake LaRavia led Wake Forest with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Alondes Williams ended the game with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists for the Demon Deacons.

North Carolina State defeats Georgia Tech 76-61

WNBA:  The Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame newest inductees have been announced. Becky Hammon, DeLisha Milton-Jones, Penny Taylor, and Alice “Cookie” Barron are the players entering the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. The Hall opened in 1999 and this is the 23rd class to enter the shrine. There were other members inducted as well, they were coaches from the league.
