A Chadbourn woman is in New Hanover Regional after a single-vehicle wreck Saturday, and a trooper is getting credit for saving her life.
First Sgt. Andrew Pait of the Highway Patrol said Trooper Trevor Bryan was on patrol near Cerro Gordo when he was dispatched to the crash. Wendy Williams had drifted across the center line and crashed in a ditch alongside Braswell Road. Her two teenagers were in the vehicle, Pait said.
“The vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side in the ditch,” Pait said.
Bryan was a short distance away, and arrived in minutes. Williams was unresponsive, Pait said.
“The teenagers’ grandfather arrived and even with both men trying, they couldn’t get Ms. Williams out,” Pait said.
The trooper climbed down into the vehicle and performed CPR on Williams until Cerro Gordo EMS arrived. Williams was taken to Columbus Regional and transferred to New Hanover. Her condition wasn’t immediately available.
Bryan does not want to be seen as a hero, Pait said.
“He put a lot of effort into trying help a motorist,” Pait said.”We’re proud of him.”
