Columbus County Vice-Narcotics officers spent last week cleaning up.

Operation Spring Cleaning netted a  dozen suspects as well as narcotics, firearms, a stolen vehicle and cash. The drug investigations involved seven locations in the county, Sheriff Jody Greene said in a press release.

Search warrants were executed at 48 Billy McDuffie Lane, Clarendon; 116 Jamaica Queens Lane, Tabor City; 217 West Williamson St., Whiteville; 261 Pine Circle Dr., Tabor City; the Holiday Motel, 2119 James B. White Highway N., Whiteville; and 4350 and 4354 Pocosin Rd., Lake Waccamaw.

Working with detectives from the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, the drug squad targeted alleged methamphetamine and fentanyl trafficking in the area. A take-down operation involving Pender units occurred at the Sun-Do Kwik Shop in Evergreen, resulting in three arrests and the seizure of fentanyl and meth.

A May 5 chase that began in Whiteville ended with an arrest at Chaunceytown road on May 5. Deputies, state troopers and Whiteville Police pursued a suspect spotted driving a vehicle that was reported stolen in Brunswick County. The driver, Adam William Lentz of Chapel Hill, was a convicted felon and carrying a firearm when he was stopped.

Vice-Narcotics Detectives arrested three people on drug charges during the N.S. Strawberry Festival in Chadbourn May 7, Greene said.

Greene said in the press release that he and his staff are “working diligently to combat the illegal narcotics and illegal firearms activities occurring within this county.”

“No complaint falls through the cracks,” he said. “Every complaint is investigated fully.  These investigations take time to ensure that the offenders will be prosecuted.

“We appreciate your patience while investigations are ongoing.  Ultimately, the goal is to eliminate the deadly effects associated with illegal narcotics sales and illegal firearm activity.”

Greene also thanked Pender Sheriff Alan Cutler and the Pender deputies for their assistance in the Sun-Do case.
