East Columbus School Vandalized

$40,000 damage to electronics.

Cooking oil, maple syrup, honey and eggs were used to cause thousands of dollars in damage to East Columbus Junior Senior High school early Thursday.

The sheriff’s office reported that school officials called 911 at 8:39 a.m. The report said that a group of alleged vandals entered a back door of the school in the early morning hours.
Honey was poured on some classroom doorknobs, the report said. Syrup and oil were poured on floors in the main hall. Toilet paper was also thrown throughout the building, and eggs were thrown against walls and the ceiling, the report said.

Electronics valued at $40,000 were also destroyed by having honey poured into the machines.

There was no sign of forced entry, according to the report.

Students heading to class this morning were instead sent to the auditorium while school personnel began cleaning up the damage. The report said the damage is suspected to have been a senior prank,

Columbus County Schools did not immediately return a request for comment.
