Nancy Sanderlin Collier, 83, of Whiteville entered into rest on Sunday, July 17, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents Hobson and Helen Sanderlin; husband of 55 years Lloyd “Pebo” Collier; sister Jane Sanderlin Morgan; nephews Allen Duke Morgan III and Hobson Sanderlin Morgan; and great nephew Hunter McRae Morgan.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in social work from Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina, currently UNC-Greensboro. She went on to work for the North Carolina Department of Social Services for 36 years traveling across eastern North Carolina and beyond. She organized and presented workshops to the employees of the department’s different divisions.
Nancy received the Long Leaf Pine Award, which is granted by the governor and is presented to honor persons who have a proven record of service to the state of North Carolina. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution for more than 50 years. Nancy was also active in the Whiteville community as a member of: Azamellia Garden Club; Business and Professional Women’s Club; and Junior Woman’s Club.
She taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Whiteville and at Carver’s Creek United Methodist Church where she is a member.
After retiring, she worked with her husband Pebo at Collier’s Jewelers.
Nancy grew up in the country in the Carver’s Creek community and wanted all relatives of her age to come spend time together. She loved her family and many friends throughout the years and spent many happy times with them at Westbrook Farm. She loved her two nephews Hob and Duke. She cherishes the time she could spend with them, her niece, and her great nephews as well as her great, great nephews and nieces.
She was most proud of the accomplishments of her nephew Hobson who spent 36 years as Captain with American Airlines. She cherishes the memory she leaves behind of him and her great nephew Owen Hobson.
Survivors include: niece Joy Morgan; great nephew Owen Hobson Morgan; Brian Sanderlin Morgan (Mey); great, great nephews Owen Bradley Morgan; Luke Sanderlin Morgan; great, great nieces Carrie Tern Morgan and Caroline Joy Morgan.
Special friends and caretakers, Jane Jenkins, Barbara Brooks, Emily Wilkins, Elva Quinn, Darlene Martin, and Louise Rose.
Family and friends are invited to pay respects to Nancy at the Carver’s Creek United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 10:00 am -10:45 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am with Rev. Jimmy Tatum officiating. Burial will follow the services in the church cemetery. Everyone is invited to take part in refreshments immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
