An investigation into fentanyl trafficking sent two men to jail July 7 at the Whiteville Econo Lodge.

The sheriff’s office said Lamarquise Pollard, 23 and James Edward Campbell, 30, were arrested in the raid.

Pollard was charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to sell and deliver opiates and marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $621,000. Detention Center records show his address as 3221 Pleasant Plains Rd., Whiteville.

Campbell was charged with possession of opiates and paraphernalia, and held under $7,500 secured bond. His address was listed as 116 Peach St., Clarkton.

In a press release, the sheriff’s office said drug agents learned of alleged sales of fentanyl at the Whiteville motel and initiated an investigation. When they executed a search warrant on the motel room, investigators recovered 9.37 grams of fentanyl, a quantity of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm.

Pollard was arrested in March 2021 after leading deputies on a chase through Whiteville. Two deputies were traveling on Madison Street when they observed Pollard operating a dirt bike without a helmet or tag.  When they initiated a traffic stop, the driver fled.  Whiteville Police were called to assist in the pursuit.

The chase went through multiple Whiteville neighborhoods before Pollard wrecked on Thompson Street, at which point he fled on foot.

The dirt bike was reportedly stolen in Horry County.

Detention Center reports show Campbell also has a history with law enforcement, having been arrested on felony cocaine charges in June. He was out on bond at the time of his most recent arrest.
