Brenda Seltzer, 73, passed away October 6, 2022, in Whiteville, NC. She was born in Columbus County, NC, January 26, 1949, to Willie and Marth Conner Jones, who have preceded her in death.
At the time of her birth, her parents were farm hands working for the Vincent family raising tobacco, a task in which they shined. This meant that Brenda and her older siblings went to work on the farms at a very early age. This allowed her to acquire a great deal of knowledge concerning farming and agriculture, which she used to develop beautiful landscapes and gardens for our homes and even some of the neighbors.
Brenda is survived by her husband of 42 years, Captain Jackson Seltzer (New Caney, TX). Additionally, Brenda had two brothers, James Carson Jones (deceased) and Richard Lamar Jones (Whiteville, NC). She also had three sisters, Linda Fay Sarvis (deceased), Glenda Miliken (Shallotte, NC), and Wanda Gale Singletary (Tabor City, NC).
She is also survived by her two children, Samuel Fowler, Jr., and his wife Crystal Fowler (China Grove, NC) and Melinda Diana King and her husband Kelly King (Huntsville, AL), three grandsons (Samuel, Jessy, and Jamie), three granddaughters (Nichole, Jazmyn, and Hannah), six great-grandsons, and one great granddaughter.
Brenda started her adult life living in Charlotte, NC, then moved to Texas (both Houston and Dallas). She loved to learn and was the first person in her family to finish college with degrees in Psychology and Biotechnology. Of the many positions Brenda held, she excelled as an insurance specialist for numerous dental organizations. Additionally, one of the businesses she owned raised butterflies for attractions and events. It goes without saying, she liked all kinds of animals and was a true lover of nature.
Being part of an airline family, she had traveled extensively to Europe, the Middle East, Central America, Canada, the Caribbean, South Pacific, and China. She and Jackson also loved to go on road trips and drove through all fifty states, Puerto Rico, Guam, Canada, and Great Britain. Later in life they traveled the county extensively in their RV bus with their little Pekingese Missy.
Brenda was not only a wonderful wife, tremendous friend, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but was also was an intelligent, beautiful, loving, and giving person. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 11 am at Whiteville Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Darryll Hester officiating.
