Boat Wakes Lead to 911 Call

No charges were filed after a woman was accused of pointing a firearm at several people in a boat on the Waccamaw River Saturday.

The sheriff’s office said deputies were called to the 1900 block of River Road at 12:32 p.m. to investigate a possible assault by pointing a gun. Three people on a boat told deputies they thought the resident of the property had pointed a firearm in their direction. No shots were fired.

The report said that the homeowner was “upset with boaters for making wakes and messing up her dock.”

The woman was carrying a firearm when she was contacted by the deputy, the report said, but denied pointing it at anyone. Video and other witnesses stated that the weapon never “
left her side.” The woman told the responding deputy that she was carrying at the time of the 911 call, but she was “using it for something else,” not pointing it at boaters.

No shots were fired, and no charges were filed in the incident.
