Teen Leads 100-MPH Chase from Bladen

Juvenile petitions are pending after a teenager allegedly stole a car in Elizabethtown and led law enforcement on chase that ended in Johnston County.

Bladen Sheriff James McVicker said in a press release that a motorist called 911 in Elizabethtown after the victim’s car was taken by a black male in a ski mask. Cpl. R. Grice spotted a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car at N.C. 53 and N.C. 242, and attempted a traffic stop.

The suspect fled, exceeding 100 miles per hour several times during the chase. The deputy and other officers, including Highway Patrol troopers, pursued the vehicle onto I-95 North in Cumberland County.

The suspect went through Cumberland and Harnett counties, picking up additional pursuers from the Dunn Police. He eventually turned onto I-40 and headed west, McVicker said. The Johnston and Wake sheriff’s offices and Highway Patrol joined the chase, with troopers taking over when the suspect turned onto Rock Quarry Road outside of Raleigh. Troopers took him into custody when he crashed into a utility pole. It was at that time that officers discovered the suspect was 13 years of age.

The juvenile refused medical assistance, but was transported to Wake Medical Center for evaluation. Upon his release, he will be placed in secure custody with the Dept. of Juvenile Justice.
