Lake Issues New Boil Advisory

Water coming out of the faucet

Road construction is once again causing water pressure problems at Lake Waccamaw, leading to yet another boil advisory.

Lake Waccamaw announced Monday that the new advisory is in effect through Friday (March 19) due to periods of low and no pressure in the town system. The Department of Transportation is completing the latest phase of the Chaunceytown Road/U.S. 74 interchange, and water pressure will be cut off at times due to the work on the highway.

Outages are being conducted between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. The loss of pressure could result in backflow containing bacteria and particulates.

Water customers at the lake are being advised to use bottled water, or boil any water intended for human consumption, including cooking, drinking or brushing teeth, for at least one minute. Water does not have to be boiled for bathing or washing clothes.

For more information call 910.646.3700.

The Boys and girls Home is requesting donations of bottled water during the outage. The home and Thomas Academy go through around 50 cases of water per day. Donations can be dropped off at Flemington Hall during regular business hours.
