Man Grazed by Bullet While Feeding Cats

Deputies are searching for the suspect who wounded a Riegelwood man while he was feeding his cats Saturday.

Sherman Lewis Brown, 72, of Weyman Road, told deputies he was working in his yard when he heard someone shooting near his home around 11:30 a.m. When he bent over to fill a cat food dish, the report said, Brown “felt a very quick and sharp pain and then noticed he was bleeding.”

The report noted that the wound appeared to be a grazing shot, but Brown was transported to New Hanover for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The case is under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
