In Loving Memory of Shirley Kathryn Edwards Million
Shirley Kathryn Edwards Million, resident of Raleigh, NC, peacefully passed away on April 21, 2024, surrounded by the warmth and care of family and staff of Liberty Commons in Whiteville, NC.
Born on December 8, 1933, in Fair Bluff, NC, Shirley was the cherished daughter of the late George Owen Edwards and Miriam Kellihan Edwards. Growing up on the family farm alongside her two brothers, Fred E. Edwards and Johnny B. Edwards, Shirley learned the values of love, faith, hard work, and community that would shape her life. Following high school graduation, Shirley married and moved to Kinston, where she raised her beloved daughter, Amy, who brought immeasurable happiness into Shirley’s life. She moved to Raleigh in 1978 where she lived until 2018.
A trailblazer in every sense, Shirley ventured into entrepreneurship in the late 70’s, when she boldly established Raleigh Crown and Bridge, the first female-owned dental lab in North Carolina. Her professionalism and dedication forged enduring friendships and lifelong relationships in the Raleigh community.
A woman of grace and elegance, Shirley’s impeccable taste was evident in her personal flair and creative talent, which she used to craft beautiful jewelry.
With her charm and zestful personality, Shirley captivated those around her and was always at the ready with a humorous, witty zinger. Shirley was known for her generosity, avid love of family, animals, and her hometown communities of Fair Bluff and Raleigh… affinities she carried in her heart throughout her life.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Liberty Commons and Liberty Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Shirley’s final days.
Shirley will be remembered by her sisters-in-law, Carole Edwards of Florence, SC and Vivian Edwards-Orrell of Clemmons, NC; nephew, Cameron Brooks Edwards (Sharon) of Wilmington, NC; nieces, Kristin Edwards (Todd Wender) of Sunset Harbor, NC; Megan Edwards (Nahchey Storer) of Charleston, SC; Samantha Alsup (Keith) of Lake Waccamaw, NC.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Rogers Jordan, her parents and her brothers. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, April 27 at Powell Cemetery in Fair Bluff. The family is requesting donations be made in memory of Shirley to Liberty Commons Residents Fund through Tracey Jones (910-734-7127); or to Fair Bluff Baptist Church.
