August 25, 1951 ~ March 30, 2024 (age 72)
Timothy “Guy” Long, 72 of the Smyrna Community of Whiteville, entered the Gates of Heaven on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Final rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Piney Forest Baptist Church with Pastor Willard McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Worthington Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
He was the son of the late John Henry Long and Margaret Annette Lewis Long. Guy was also preceded in death by three siblings, Dallas “Buddy” Long, Calvin Dean Long and Brenda “Sissy” Long Brown.
He was a member of Piney Forest Baptist Church, and was very civic minded and served on many boards in the area including the board of the Columbus County Department of Aging, former Jaycee member, served two terms on the Chadbourn City Council, The NC Strawberry Festival serving two terms as president, member of the Chadbourn ABC Board, coached on the Chadbourn Dixie Youth Baseball program, and volunteered on the Chadbourn Klondyke Fire and Rescue Department for many years. Guy retired from DuPont Leland in 2009 after 38 years of service.
Guy is survived by his wife, Mona Stephens Long of the home; two sons, Timothy Revis Long and his wife, Allisia of Lake Waccamaw and Johnny Brent Long of Whiteville; and his sister, Belinda Long Walker (Leon) of Chadbourn.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Piney Forest Baptist Church Missions Fund, 4509 Andrew Jackson Hwy SW, Chadbourn, NC 28431.
