October 15, 1933 ~ March 26, 2025 (age 91)
Everett Lanier went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 26, 2025 . He was a great man of faith and was ready to be welcomed into the arms of his heavenly Father after spending the majority of his life serving the Lord and sharing his faith with others in hopes of changing lives and bringing others closer to knowing the full extent of God’s love, mercy, grace and forgiveness.
Born in Whiteville, NC on October 15, 1933, Everett was the son of the late Otis and Inez Lanier. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Ruth Ward Lanier; daughter Kim Lanier Snow (Wiley) and her children Meg and Will Phillips, Sara Snow, daughter of Wiley Snow, daughter Karen Lanier Edwards and son Jet Thompson. He was predeceased by a daughter Kelly Lanier Adams and a grandson Andrew Robert Bailey. Everett was a graduate of Whiteville High School and began a 41 year career in the military He honorably served his country and was awarded several commendations and certificates to include 82nd Airborne, Army Recruiter, Outstanding performance reviews from his Commander, Noncommissioned Officer School, Commendation Medal, Top Gun Award, Outstanding Chapter Representative and The Army Achievement Medal.
His greatest achievement was serving God and he was appointed as a deacon in 1980. Everett loved to teach Sunday School and spent hours in preparations for the class. If the doors of the church were open he was there. From teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and serving on various committees he spent the majority of his time in service to the Lord.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 1:00pm at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church. His funeral service will follow at 2:00pm at the church with the Rev. Joshua Connor and Rev. Dave Heller officiating. Burial will follow in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park. The family would like to express their gratitude for the prayers and visits from friends during his illness.
