A collision at Washington Street and JK Powell Boulevard in Whiteville has closed the intersection. Witnesses said one person appears to have been shot. Police, the Highway Patrol, State Bureau of Investigation and other agencies have blocked off the scene.
One person has been airlifted to New Hanover. The crash is apparently related to a shootout that occurred moments before, a short distance away on JK Powell Boulevard.
