Multiple law enforcement officers were deployed to Hallsboro Artesia School today (Monday) after three children reportedly left the campus.
“At approximately 11:18 a.m. today,” Schools spokesman Kelly Jones said in a release, “it was discovered that three students were missing from their physical education class at Hallsboro-Artesia Elementary School. The situation was immediately reported to the school principal at 11:19 a.m. Upon reviewing campus security footage, it was determined that the students had left the school grounds.”
The School Resource Officer (SRO) requested support from local law enforcement at 11:30 a.m. to ensure the students’ safety and to assist with locating them. The students were located off-campus at 11:55 a.m. and returned to the school safely.
“Each student was interviewed to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Jones said. The students were turned over to their parents, Jones said.
“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and we are reviewing this incident to ensure that all protocols are followed moving forward,” he said. “We appreciate the swift response of law enforcement and the cooperation of our staff in resolving the situation.
“We will continue to work closely with students, parents, and staff to reinforce the importance of safety and following school procedures.”
