Suspect Was Fleeing Devil

A man was arrested Wednesday after he broke into a church and disrobed while trying to flee the devil, a sheriff’s report said.

Dusty Johnathan Prince, 35, was held under $20,000 secured bond on charges of breaking and entering a place of worship, and property damage. His address was listed on court documents as 4316 Will Inman Rd., Tabor City.

Dusty Prince was found without clothing in the church bathroom.

The sheriff’s office reported that deputies were called to New Life Baptist Church at 420 New Life Church Road at 8:37 a.m. to a break-in that was in progress. Scott Sanders met deputies outside the church with Prince. Prince was placed in handcuffs in a patrol vehicle.

Sanders told deputies that he went to the church to meet a drywall contractor, and found Prince in a bathroom, without clothing. Prince told Sanders his clotes were in the front of the church. While getting the clothes for Prince, Sanders said he discovered damage to mirrors and other items, and called 911.

Prince reportedly admitted to breaking into the church after he “pulled and pulled on the door until it came open,” according to the report. He was trying to get inside to “get away from the devil.”  He estimated he had been in the church around four hours when Sanders found him, the report said.
