Here’s today’s Bottom Line

Dry conditions will continue through the holiday weekend and into Monday thanks to strong high pressure parked offshore. This will pump warm and increasingly humid air into the area over the next few days.

This high will start to sort of break down, little by little, during the next work week. At the same time, a frontal system will approach the area Tuesday. It’s not going to be the strongest of storm systems, but it should be enough for a cold front to drop southeast across North Carolina.

This front is likely to get hung up between two areas of high pressure — one over the Great Lakes and the original high offshore. The front gets “slung” in a west-to-east orientation by Wednesday, and really doesn’t go anywhere through the end of the week. Instead, it will slowly dissipate.

This means an increased chance for mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms each day Tuesday through Friday. We won’t see widespread coverage — SCATTERED is the key word. Some areas will get little, if anything, and some areas could get rather significant amounts of rainfall. Who gets what is impossible to predict. We’ll take all we can get at this point.
