• Dustin Lloyd Long had previously run from deputies when they were attacked by a dog at the residence he shared with Shelia Todd.
A man wanted for sexually abusing a child was attempting to hide behind a rack of clothes when he was arrested Thursday, along with the woman who allegedly helped him hide.
Dustin Lloyd Long, 30, Evergreen and Shelia Marie Todd, 36, both of Macedonia Church Rd., Evergreen, were jailed after deputies went to serve an outstanding warrant on Long at the residence. He was wanted for indecent liberties with a minor, an 11 year old female, according to reports. Long was also charged with resisting an officer and failure to appear. His bond was set at $301,500. Todd’s bond was set at $500 secured.
Todd allegedly told deputies that he wasn’t at the home, then closed the door on the deputies to secure a dog, the report said. The deputies could hear male and female voices inside the home, although Todd said she was alone.
After approximately ten minutes, the report said Todd reopened the door and allowed deputies to enter so they could search the property. Long was found hiding in a rear room behind a rack of clothes.
On March 24, deputies went to the home to serve Long with civil papers, and Todd escaped out a back door. When deputies told him to stop, he hid back inside the home. A dog approached the deputies in an aggressive manner, the report said, and Long escaped. A deputy had to strike the dog to avoid being bitten, but the deputy was not seriously injured.
While deputies were dealing with the dog, the report said, Long made good his escape. Deputies then obtained arrest warrants and returned to the residence, where he again tried to flee, the report said. This time Long his inside, and deputies caught him in a closet.
Long was initially held under no bond, because he was out on pretrial release at the time of the March 24 arrest, awaiting trial on a number of traffic offenses. He was granted bond in a court hearing and released from jail March 25. The alleged child sex offenses occurred the day after Long was released on bond.
