Here’s today’s Bottom Line

We’ll be experiencing our longest official heat wave of the season so far — a heat wave is defined as 3 or more days with highs 90 degrees or higher. We’ll be at or above 90 through Thursday.

Dry weather will continue today, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday thanks to high pressure ridging at the surface and aloft.

A frontal boundary approaches on Thursday, being pushed southward by a trough of low pressure over the Great Lakes. This front ends up stationary by Friday, snaking somewhere over the Carolinas. This front will be the focus for some potentially decent rainfall Thursday afternoon through Friday and possibly into Saturday.

National model blends are painting a picture of 3+ inches of rain through this period, but I have my doubts on those kinds of totals. In our training, we’re taught, “when in drought, forecast drought.” I want to see several more model runs over the next few days before I jump on that bandwagon.

But it stands to reason that if the frontal boundary hangs over the area, scattered to numerous showers and storms could put down some locally heavy rainfall totals, and that’s not a bad thing.
