The man who admitted setting multiple fires along U.S. 74 earlier this year is back in jail.
Jermey Lynn Hayes, 42, is being held in the Columbus County Detention Center under $50,000 secured bond. He is charged with violating parole, according to court records.
Hayes pleaded guilty in Columbus County Superior court to three counts of setting grass or woodsfires. As part of his sentencing, he was given two years supervised probation, and ordered into rehab at The Healing Place.
Court documents show he was “kicked out” of the facility June 23, and returned to custody.
A resentencing hearing is set for July 7.
In February, firefighters were called to right of way along U.S. 74 near Smyrna Road to multiple fires along the highway. Investigation by the N.C. Forest Service targeted Hayes, who was arrested Feb. 24.
