Police have identified two local teens as the victims in a shooting in Roanoke Rapids Monday.
Mariah Thompson, 15, and Patrick Shane Faircloth, 20, were shot to death Monday afternoon in the area of Vance and West Eleventh streets, according to Roanoke Rapids Police. They were riding with Isaiah Cooper, 19, also of Whiteville. Cooper was uninjured.
The shooting occurred in the area of Vance and West Eleventh streets. A Roanoke Rapids Police Officer was in the area at the time of the shooting, according to police, and spotted Cooper’s vehicle fleeing the area. He was stopped a short distance away and detained, then released after questioning, police said.
The three were reportedly in Roanoke Rapids so Miss Thompson could visit her boyfriend. Miss Thompson was from Whiteville, and Faircloth lived near Chadbourn.
Area truck enthusiasts will hold a “Final Ride” memorial service for the victims Friday at 7 p.m. at the Whiteville Walmart. Faircloth was well-known in the custom truck community here. His truck will be on display at Friday’s event.
Faircloth graduated Whiteville High School in 2025.
