Key Points:

Mercy it’s cold this morning. I don’t know about yall, but I’m not cut out for this kind of cold. And while we’re dealing with the cold, we’re also dealing with some dreadful driving conditions on secondary roads… some of which are nothing more than ice-skating rinks with ditches.

PLEASE go slow and allow a LOT of extra travel time this morning. Don’t tailgate, leave lots of room. A 4×4 will slide off the road just as easily as the vanilla front-wheel drive. Don’t be a bully behind the wheel.

There will be relatively little melting today as I believe our skies will remain mostly cloudy throughout the day. The clouds are caused by a new low pressure center developing off the Cape Fear coast today; this low will stay far enough off the coast to keep the precipitation out of here. We’re left with dry conditions, mostly cloudy skies, and highs in the mid 30s.

That all clears on out tonight and while it will remain cold, we won’t go as low down to the ground as we had previously… lows around 20.

We should experience a mix of sunshine and clouds on your Friday with slightly warming temps… highs into the lower 40s. Modeling suggests that we will be leaving the deep Arctic freeze.

Even milder on Saturday… mid 40s
Even milder on Sunday… lower 50s
Next week… 50s to lower 60s

No significant systems in our future; there is a chance for some rain on Monday. A frontal boundary will come together over the midwest and move eastward, but it’s looking like the front might “wash out” before passing through the area late Monday. There may be some showers, though, in the warmer/more moist flow from the southwest.  The guidance suggests that if the front survives the trip to the coast, our temps early next week may not quite reach the numbers noted above.  I’m hedging my bets on the front dying before actually getting here.

That’ll wrap it up. Short and sweet today, there’s not an awful lot to talk about. Here’s my forecast:

Once again, please check out Freedom Insurance near the south-end Hills in Whiteville for all of your insurance needs. Thanks for reading, share this with your friends and family, and as always, take care.
