Eight law enforcement agencies combined for saturation patrols and a sobriety checkpoint in Evergreen Friday.
A total of 46 traffic citations were issued during the operation, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. The operation was part of the statewide initiative led by the Governor’s Highway Safety Program (NC GHSP) to combat impaired and unsafe driving.
“Collaborative operations like this are vital to keeping our roads safe,” Sheriff W.A. “Bill” Rogers said. “I’m grateful to every agency and officer who joined us to make a difference in our community.”
CCSO was joined by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and police from Tabor City, Whiteville, Chadbourn, Lumberton, Red Springs, and Jacksonville.
The CCSO also requested assistance from the Forensic Test for Alcohol Branch of NCDHHS, who deployed their specialized BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) Mobile Unit. The unit includes multiple breath testing stations, fingerprinting equipment, a Magistrate Office, and other resources required for a large-scale enforcement operation.
Officers issued 23 registration violations, one speeding citation, three seatbelt/restraint tickets, six for driving without a license, three for no insurance, five for driving while license revoked, and five other citations.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office thanked all the participating agencies and personnel for their assistance.
