April was a big time for online gambling in North Carolina.
The state gaming commission release the April numbers his morning (Monday). Online gamblers in North Carolina wagered $576,209,378 on sporting events in April through the state’s eight licensed betting agencies.
Players won $525,315,718 in April, producing $46 million for the state’s eight licensed gambling concerns, and bringing in $8.4 million on taxes for the state. That’s a significant increase over March, when the licensees had gross revenues of $38.1 million, providing $5.8 million in taxes to the state.
State law levies an 18 percent tax on the gross wagering revenue generated by sports wagering activity. Gross wagering revenue is a total of amounts received from sports wagers less the amounts paid as winnings before any deductions for expenses, fees, or taxes.
