
Multiple events celebrating the nation’s birthday are set for Columbus County through Saturday.
Thursday is the Let Freedom Ring celebration at South Columbus High School. Gates open at 6 p.m., with the county’s largest fireworks display around 9 p.m. There will be foo trucks, live local entertainment, and more throughout the evening. Bring a chair or blanket, and be sure to arrive early.
Friday will be the Patriotic Family Fourth at Lake Waccamaw’s Elizabeth Brinkley Park. Decorate your bicycle or golf cart, and be there before 9:30 a.m.
Friday is also the Jimmy Stanley Hot Sale at Lake Waccamaw Fire and Rescue. Firefighters will be filling to boot on Flemington Drive for folks who want to donate but already have lunch plans.
Cruising Lake Waccamaw on land or the water while enjoying private firework displays has become a tradition for many families. Popular viewing areas include the bridge at the dam and Weaver’s Beach at Dale’s Seafood. Remember that piers on the lake are privately owned, and traffic can be slow and congested.
Transformation Church and Milk B4 Meat Ministries will have an Independence Day carnival and fundraiser starting at noon Friday. There will be kids games, a cruise-in, food, and a dunking booth. All proceeds go to the church building fund. The carnival will be held at 9938 James B. White Highway South.
The Veterans Memorial Park will have the second annual Freedom Fest on July 5 from 9 until 2 p.m. Look for a cruise in, food trucks, a massive yard sale, and fun for the kids. The Veterans Park is located on James B. White Highway South (U.S. 701) in the New Hope community.
The Austin Watts family of Hallsboro is once again hosting their Independence Day celebration July 5 at 3 p.m.
Chadbourn will have a food truck rodeo and fireworks display starting at 5 p.m. at the Chadbourn Event field off Strawberry Boulevard.
