Whiteville Bandit Faces Charges from 2014

A convicted felon who robbed three Whiteville retailers in 2014 and fled to Florida is back home, awaiting trial.

Andre Alexander Freeman, 36, was released by Florida authorities into custody of Whiteville Police Aug. 7, and returned to Coumbus County, according to Whiteville Police. He has been charged with armed robbery, one of common law robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault on a female, second degree kidnapping and cruelty to animals. His bond was set at a total of $350,000 secured.

Det. Scott Moody of the Whiteville Police said that in 2014, Freeman went on a crime spree in Whiteville. He held up the Walmart, a Family Dollar and a Dollar General store. Information about his other alleged crimes was not immediately available.

Freeman fled to Florida, Moddy said, where he continued robbing businesses, but his luck ran out and he was arrested and convicted of four counts of armed robbery and sentenced to 13 years in prison, according to Florida prison records. He was turned over to WPD immediately after being released from prison in the Sunshine State.
