Hobbton Downs Eagles in Weather Delayed Game

ELIZABETHTOWN– In a game resumed due to bad weather, Hobbton came back with a dynamite backfield to down East Bladen 32-28.

The game had been halted due to lightning with 7:26 left in the third quarter on Sept. 26 with the score 14-12 East Bladen.

Amir Tate and Reginald Thompson combined for five touchdowns and turned into “T-N-T” and exploded for a combined 303 yards rushing.

Hobbton scored four plays when the game resumed when Joe Corbett found Amir Tate in the end zone for a one-yard touchdown pass. Corbett passed to Thompson for the two-point conversion put Hobbton ahead 20-14. After holding the Eagles, the Wildcats got back on the board again when Thompson ran 63-yards to the end zone to make the score 26-14 Wildcats. East Bladen scored on the first play after the kickoff with a 71-yard TD pass from Keyshawn Kemp to Jaden Lewis to close the gap to 26-20 with 19 seconds left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, a bad snap on an East Bladen punt gave Hobbton great field position at the Eagles 38-yard line. Tate scored from nine yards out to give the Wildcats a 32-20 advantage. East Bladen refused to quit as Kemp hit Lewis again for a 48-yard touchdown pass. Kemp converted the two-point conversion and cut the Wildcat lead to 32-28 with 2:06 left in the game. Hobbton ran out the remaining time on the clock.

East Bladen, with two losses in four days, falls to 1-2 in the Carolina Conference and 4-3 overall. The Eagles were led by Keyshawn Kemp, who was 6-10 passing had 132 yards and two touchdowns. Kemp also ran for a touchdown and 53 yards. Dashon Campbell carried the ball 16 times for 180 yards. The Eagles will go to East Columbus (1-2, 2-5) on Friday. Amir Tate ran for 154 yards for the Wildcats and Reginald Thompson grounded out 149 yards. Hobbton (3-0, 4-3) is off this week with a bye.
