One person died and two others were seriously injured after a collision in Whiteville Saturday evening.
The fatality was the second road death in Columbus County this year.
Whiteville Police Chief Paul Rockenbach said the crash happened at the intersection of West Burkhead and J.K. Powell at approximately 6:01 p.m.
A truck turning onto Powell was struck by another vehicle, witnesses said. The truck overturned and came within feet of the front door of the Minuteman convenience store.
One person was dead at the scene, Rockenbach said. Another was airlifted to New Hanover Novant, and the third is being treated at Columbus Regional.
No names have been released, the chief said.
The investigation is continuing.
Rockenbach thanked the responding agencies that assisted WPD, including the Highway Patrol, Columbus’s County Sheriff’s Office, Whiteville Ride and Whiteville Rescue.
