Lake Waccamaw Honors America’s 250th Anniversary

The Town of Lake Waccamaw has officially recognized the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States of America with a proclamation celebrating the nation’s rich history, civic values, and the importance of preserving local heritage for future generations. This year is known as the Semiquincentennial — the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

The proclamation was adopted at Tuesday night’s meeting and highlights the nation’s founding ideals of liberty, equality, and democracy while encouraging residents to reflect on the sacrifices and contributions made throughout American history. Town leaders also used the occasion to recognize Lake Waccamaw’s own longstanding tradition of civic pride and historical preservation.

As part of the anniversary observance, the board announced plans to continue that tradition by contributing to a new time capsule that will be sealed on July 4 of this year. The capsule is intended to remain sealed for 50 years before being opened on July 4, 2076 during the nation’s Tricentennial celebration.

The proclamation also encourages all residents to participate in events and educational opportunities connected to the nation’s anniversary celebration. Leaders hope the observance will inspire civic pride, community involvement, and a renewed appreciation for the principles upon which the United States was founded.

The proclamation was signed by Mayor Greg Jacobs and Town Clerk Meredith Parker.
