East Columbus Lady Gator Sara Coleman continues to gather awards and accolades for her outstanding softball season.
Coleman was recently named 1A Eastern Player of the Year. This accomplishment goes with her other awards that she has amassed this season. She was named District 4 1A Player of the Year after finishing the season with 11 homeruns, 39 RBI’s, 35 hits, and 23 walks on her way to all-conference, all-district, and all-state honors. Her career hits total sits at 107 and her RBI totals at 99.
Coleman was also tapped as a POWR SHOWCASE All-American and will participate in the 19th All-American Classic Game and the Home Run Derby, to take place at loanDepot Park in Miami, Fla., home of the Marlins. The event is scheduled for Nov. 22-23.
Coleman was a key figure at first base for the Gators as they made it to the 1A Eastern Championship, before ECHS fell to Bear Grass Charter two games to zero. Coleman stated she was excited about the opportunity.
“I am extremely grateful for each and every opportunity I am awarded and the recognition I have gotten,” she said. “My success would not be possible without the amazing support system I have. My dad Randy instilled the hard work and dedication this game would demand of me. From an early age, he taught me how to enjoy work.”
Coleman not only has the bat, but she has the brain.
She was also named to the N.C. Governor’s School, which honors students who excel in sports and all disciplines of educational academia.
Coleman thanked her coaches, teammates, and God.
”I have also had some really amazing coaches and teammates along the way that helped to shape me as a player. It is impossible to truly express my gratitude and appreciation for the ones who have been there along the way. Only God knows what is in store for my future and I am very excited to see what His plan is.”
