It’s officially fall, and as cooler temperatures make their way across Columbus County, folks are taking advantage of the nice weather by getting out and supporting local businesses and organizations. Join a breast cancer awareness walk, check out the Engage Life Church yard sale, or peruse some cool cars at Welcome Church’s ‘Fall in Motion’ car show at the Veterans Memorial Park of America.

Daisy Vereen Brooks and the Facts of Life Community Outreach Program hosts their Nourish Hope distribution event every Wednesday at 11 a.m. to N.C. and S.C. residents. The Columbus County Community Farmers Market opens on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-7 p.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Come shop fresh and local and support vendors and farmers in our community.
The market has fresh produce, farm-fresh eggs, homemade breads, jams and jellies, local honey, fresh juices, handmade jewelry, custom tumblers, crafts, games for all ages, live music, and so much more. The market is located at 132 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville.
Everyone can use a little help these days, and several religious organizations are doing their best to ensure that residents in Columbus County don’t go hungry. There are food banks and hot meal opportunities throughout the week available to those in need.

The third annual Walk to Remember Jessalyn breast cancer awareness event will be on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 8 a.m. at Coastal Family Urgent Care. Proceeds from walk will be used to help pay for mammograms for women without insurance.
Coastal Family Urgent Care is located at 310 Liberty Street in Whiteville.
Engage Life Church will be having a multi-family yard sale this weekend, Sept. 26, starting at 7 a.m. Folks are invited to come out and browse, fellowship, and get to know a little about the church.
Engage Life’s address is 386 Thompson Town Road in Whiteville.
Welcome Church will be having the “Faith in Motion” car show on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park of America. The rain date for the event will be Oct. 3. There is a $25 registration fee for cars, trucks, motorcycles, and vendors.
Trophies will be rewarded, and there will be spectator voting. The VMPA is located at 6354 James B. White Highway South in Whiteville.
Hallsboro Baptist Church are asking for monetary and grocery store gift card donations for their ‘Let’s Bless Our Neighbors’ fundraiser. These will be given to the Lake Waccamaw Food Pantry to purchase items for the food bank at Lake Waccamaw Baptist Church.

The Columbus County First Responder Appreciation Luncheon will be on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 12-2 p.m. at the Cerro Gordo Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Those who would like to attend are asked to R.S.V.P by text to Tony Dralle at 910.640.8262.

Chadbourn Baptist Church will be having a blood drive on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 1-6 p.m. You can make an appointment by visiting www.redcrossblood.org or by calling 910.640.8157.
All blood types are needed for this event, and everyone is welcome to donate. The church can be found at 504 North Howard Street in Chadbourn.
The town of Bolton will be a busy place on Oct. 3 beginning at 10 a.m. with the 27th annual Pine Tree Festival and parade. They are currently taking entries for the procession along with bands and drumlines, and craft, food, jewelry, and clothing vendors are invited to sign up to setup at the festival.

Families First will also have a big event on Saturday evening, Oct. 3, from 6-9 p.m. with the Rock the Runway fundraiser. Join them for a night of fashion and entertainment while supporting the women’s domestic violence shelter.
The fundraiser is for folks 21 and up, and the cost is $45 per ticket. There will be heavy hor dourerves, beer, and wine included with admission. A silent auction will also be held.

The Veterans Memorial Park of America will be having their 150 Pheasant Tower Shoot on Oct. 10 at the Honey Hill Hunting Preserve in Hallsboro. The 8 a.m. slots are sold out, but the 10:30 a.m. session still has openings available. Lunch will be included.
The price is $200 per shooter, four shooters per peg, with ten pegs total. There will be 150 pheasants released at each time slot. All proceeds from the shoot will benefit the park. ‘

The Columbus County Agricultural Fair has a new category for the artwork contest this year. All barn quilt painters can now submit their hand painted pieces for judging no later than Saturday, Oct. 10. The canvases will be on display at the fair from Oct. 13-18.
The fairgrounds are located at 886 Prison Camp Road in Whiteville.
The Family Birthing Center at Columbus Regional Healthcare System is inviting expectant mothers in their third trimester and their partners to attend birthing classes at the facility. Space is limited, but they will accommodate all interested participants.
The class will include topics like what to expect during your birth experience, the benefits of breastfeeding and how to be successful, a tour of the center, and a meet and greet with the staff. Refreshments will be served at each session.
The event is free, and each session will run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Classes are scheduled for the following dates:

- Nov. 14
- Dec. 12
