J.K. Powell crash caused by fleeing driver

The crash has tangled homebound traffic on J.K. Powell near the Sonic restaurant.

Update, 9:40 p.m.

One person has been airlifted after a high speed chase that ended with a car carrying a grandmother and several children being rammed on J.K, Powell Boulevard Wednesday.

Friends said Anita Adams was carrying groceries for Friday’s Veterans Dinner at the fairgrounds when her car was struck by a driver who was alleged fleeing the Highway Patrol.

The crash blocked part of J.K. Powell Boulevard near Williamson Street and the Sonic restaurant.
At least one of the vehicles crashed through a chainlink fence at the Whiteville High School construction site.
