No helmet leads to trouble in Tabor City

Ignoring the state’s helmet law ended badly for a South Carolina man Tuesday.

Sgt. Brian Campbell of the Tabor city Police was on patrol along Pireway Road when he said he spotted Gavin Christopher Bardi, 31, riding a moped without a helmet. Campbell initiated a traffic stop on Bardi, the report said. A records check showed he was wanted in South Carolina on a fugitive warrant.

While Campbell was securing the moped, he discovered a glass pipe “used to introduce crack or meth into the body,” the report said.

Bardi, of Loris, S.C., was charged with drug paraphernalia, a helmet violation, and held on the fugitive warrant pending extradition to South Carolina.
