Deputies arrested a man who was allegedly trespassing at Central Middle School Friday, and found drug paraphernalia in his pockets.
Elijah Carmichael, 42, of 102 E. Calhoun St., Whiteville, was charged with first degree trespassing, two counts of resisting an officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to jail reports. His bond was set at $1,000.
Deputies were out in force at all area schools after the alleged threats against a South Columbus High student. The report with the sheriff’s office did not make it clear if the arresting officer was a School Resource Officer or a deputy temporarily assigned to Central.
The sheriff’s office reported that Elijah Carmichael fled from a deputy who was trying to speak to him around 1 p.m. Carmichael ran from Central toward Virgil Street, then to the Happy Mart on Powell Boulevard. Dep. P. Carrano pursued Carmichael on foot and detained him at the convenience store. A crack pipe and drug paraphernalia was found in his pockets.
