It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and it really will be everywhere you go in Columbus County. From Santa Claus to church productions, the Christmas spirit is alive and well in the area.
The Real Whiteville Santa will be at the little Santa house Wednesday- Saturday from 3:30 p.m.-7 p.m. throughout the month of December. Come out and bring your little ones, and bring your camera too. Santa is located next to the Jeff Jackson Farm Bureau on 113 West Smith Street in Whiteville.
The Whiteville Junior Woman’s Club is having their sixth annual Mistletoe Market until 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 and on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. at Vineland Depot in downtown Whiteville. Admission is $5. Come out and have your family’s Christmas picture taken by FreeFolk Photography, or shop for unique Christmas gifts among the many booths and vendors. Vineland Depot is located at 701 South Madison Street.
The Christmas from the Heart craft show and sale will be Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Columbus County Community Farmer’s Market. There will be hand crafted items, homemade jellies and jams, food, and fun. Admission is free. The market is located at 132 Government Complex Road in Whiteville. Come out and support the locals this holiday season.
Volunteers are needed Monday at 9 a.m. to help distribute gifts from the Columbus Baptist Association Toy Store. Volunteers will help move gifts to recipient’s cars. Contact Rev. Dave Heller via Facebook for more information. Volunteers purchased more than $30,000 in gifts using donations this week, and more toys will be delivered over the weekend.
Hallsboro Baptist Church will be having a drive thru Christmas production called “The Scarlet Thread” on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. Attendees will be able to enjoy the show without ever leaving their cars. The church is located at 576 Hallsboro Road North.
The Grissettown Longwood Fire and Rescue Department will be hosting a Christmas Train Show on Dec. 4-5 at the fire station. There will be all scales and sizes of trains on display, kid’s interactive displays, concessions, a baked goods table, train sets, and accessories. The event is sponsored by the Intracoastal Model Railroad Club of Brunswick County. Saturday times will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday’s schedule is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The department is located at 758 Longwood Road in Ocean Isle Beach.
The Whiteville City Schools Board of Education is hosting its 2021 Angel Tree event. Folks in the community are asked to sponsor a less fortunate child by calling 910.642.3546 extension 4223. Gifts can include bikes, toys, clothes, winter coats, shoes, and other items. Angel gifts are due by Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. and can be dropped off at the Board of Education located at 107 West Walter Street in Whiteville.

Shizzy’s Wildcat Rescue will need volunteers Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Fair Bluff Big Cat Sanctuary to complete installation of the perimeter fencing and remaining construction for the first seven acres of the facility. The city of Chadbourn is putting a spin on things this holiday season. The town will be having a Christmas festival on Saturday, Dec. 4. Come at 10 a.m. to see the gingerbread house decorating contest, and check out the ugly Christmas sweater contest at 11 a.m. Both events will take place at the Depot Museum.
Speaking of Chadbourn, load up the family and bring your kids to the corner of Elm Street and Railroad Avenue at 1:30 p.m. to see Santa and Ms. Claus brought in by train. Afterwards, head over to Brown Street and bring your camera. Enjoy a meet and greet with the Grinch, Mickey, Minnie, and many other lovable characters. Lake Waccamaw will be having their annual Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. Floats, golf carts, antique cars, marching bands, and walking groups are welcomed to join in on the fun as folks ring in the Christmas spirit lakeside.
The Lake Waccamaw Fire and Rescue Department will be having a cornhole tournament Dec. 4 at 12 p.m. at the station. The entry fee is $25 per team. Prizes include $100 for first place, $50 for second place, and $30 for third place. There will be hot chocolate and concessions for sale. Proceeds go to the family of David Vela. The Whiteville Christmas Parade is set for December 5 at 3 p.m. The parade is being sponsored again by Peace Baptist Church. More than 70 entries are on tap for what could be the biggest Christmas parade in the city’s history. The parade route is along Madison Street from the courthouse to Frasier Street.
New Life Community Church will be having their Christmas Cantata entitled “For No Other Reason” on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. The church is located at 107 Maultsby Street in Whiteville.
Columbus County Fire and Rescue Association will be hosting a Boston Butt sale to raise money Lake Waccamaw Firefighter David Vela and his family. The Velas lost everything in a house fire last week. Tickets are $30 and must be purchased by Dec. 10. Pick up will be on Dec. 23 from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. at 205 Lee Avenue in Whiteville.
