A second Tabor Correctional inmate has been found dead of an apparent suicide.

The N.C. Dept. of Public Safety said in a press release that Robert B. Walker was found unresponsive in his cell at 6:06 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 26.) Walker was discovered when guards were checking in for the next shift.

First responders attempted treatment, and local paramedics attempted to revive Walker, but he was pronounced dead at 6:44 p.m.

The death is under investigation by Tabor City Police.

Walker was serving a 13.5 year sentence for attempted murder. He was convicted in New Hanover County for the 2016 attempted murder of his wife. Walker used a hammer in the assault. He was scheduled to be released in 2026, according to DPS.

The death was the second apparent suicide of an inmate at the prison in less than a month.

Malik Moore was found deceased in his cell at TCI on Dec. 29. Moore was serving a sentence as an habitual offender, but had also recently been charged with the murders of a woman in Charlotte and another in Greensboro. Moore was found unresponsive just before 5 a.m.
