Lake Waccamaw resident Shane Hester, offered the pups his vehicle to warm up in until animal services arrived.

Emma Melvin and her family were presented a check for $11,000 after a Boston butt fundraiser.

The Elizabethtown and Tar Heel fire department joined forces to put together a Boston butt fundraiser in December for the family of Emma Melvin, daughter of firefighters Dustin and Caitlin Melvin.

The little girl was diagnosed with severe Aplastic Anemia in late 2021.

The condition causes the body to not produce enough red blood cells to sustain it. The family has to make frequent trips to Duke University Hospital for Emma to receive bone marrow and platelet transfusions.  The departments raised over $11,000 for the Melvins to help with travel and medical expenses and presented them with the check last week.
