This week, Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Cadets traveled to Lake Waccamaw Fire Department to tour the station and learn CPR training. Chief Brandy Nance took time out of her busy schedule to teach these youngsters a valuable skill.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services needs your help. The floors at the shelter are being updated, and foster moms and dads are needed to take furbabies in until the project is complete. You are welcome to come out and see the animals Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Please contact the CCSAPS for any additional information or to volunteer at 910.641.3945.
Whiteville Parks and Recreation is currently accepting T-Ball sign-ups for ages 4-6 years old through March 18, and Dixie Youth Boys Baseball for ages 13-14 years old through April 1. Southern Farm Days is back this year at the Boys and Girls Homes Equine Center. Gates will open March 18-19 at 8:30 a.m. and March 20 at 10 a.m. There will be craft vendors, tractor and farm displays, tractor activities, a swap meet, auction, horse and mule plowing, entertainment and much more. Admission for adults is $10, and children 11 years old and younger get in free. A free trolley service and handicap parking will be available. The BB&T-Truist Lighthouse Foundation will being giving a presentation at the Veterans Memorial Park on Tuesday, March 15. The free event begins at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.
The Whiteville Police Department will be having a child safety seat check on Friday, March 18 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Whiteville City Hall parking lot. Trained officers will be on hand to guide parents on installing safety seats in their vehicles and the correct way to buckle children in. This is a free service from WPD.
Shizzy’s Wildcat Rescue is building a 56-acre big cat sanctuary located in Fair Bluff. They are in need of volunteers to help with the construction of den boxes and installation of perimeter fencing, top railing and kickers on several big cat and wolf habitats on Saturday, March 19 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

The town of Chadbourn will be having a community blood drive on Tuesday, April 12 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Blood Connection bus will be at the Chadbourn Police Department located at 602 North Brown Street.
