The Waccamaw Siouan STEM Studio Second Annual Community Yacunne Camp will kick off this Friday in Buckhead.

The camp is part of the Waccamaw STEM Studio, in cooperation with the Wildlife Resources Commission. Children get to learn about fishing techniques, as well as the role fish and fishing play in the environment. They’ll also get to hear from adults about the history of fishing in the community, as well as family and tribal traditions.

This year the program has expanded its horizons and will include a variety of giveaways at the event.  The items will include STEM Studio water bottles, camp t-shirts, and kid’s coloring kits with fishing education information.

Free food will be cooked onsite, and participants are invited to take some fresh fruits and vegetables at absolutely no cost.

Children will also receive free bait and tackle boxes to take home, and anyone who attends will be provided with all the fishing gear needed for the camp at no charge. All of the items are available while supplies last.

The camp will be open on Fridays, April 22 and 29, from 6 – 8 p.m., and on Saturdays, April 23 and 30, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The fishing location is 211 Pecan Ponds, Bolton.
